Faun AK435 Street Sweeper

It had brushes underneath and a workman figure to handle the hose - gully sucker I think is the name for it, but the brushes were not connected to anything. The Dinky Toys street sweeper based on the old Ford D Series, had drive belts from the wheels to the brushes, much more satisfying. It is also interesting that this is a Faun truck. In earlier years most municipal trucks were on Karrier chassis, or Ford D Series or Bedford TK. By 1980 companies like Faun of Germany were taking over this role as the British made trucks left the market.

Corgi Toys released the Faun Street Sweeper (1117) in May 1980 and it remained in production through to the Mettoy bankruptcy in 1983. They are found in orange and yellow.

Production continued in the post Mettoy era, I've not recorded the release dates for one of them below, but I suspect they were made from 1984 onwards in the core range and some special Code 2s being produced as promotional items.
