Ferrari 206 Dino Sport

Van Cleemput describes this one in the Great Book of Corgi as 'all in all ... an elegant model' and he is right. Beautifully modelled and engineered it is absolutely true to the Corgi heritage. It is a little jewel of a car. It is though a landmark model being the first with Whizzwheels. These are the early 'red spot' Whizzwheels, I guess Corgi were casting around for a technology to match Mattel's Hot Wheels. This car was planned to have golden jacks and take-off wheels but never reached the shops in that form, however the base-plate looks like it meant to have them.

The Ferrari Dino Sport was released in September 1969 and remained in the range until 1973 in both red and yellow. The earliest of them have red-spot Whizzwheels which were replaced for the bulk of the run with the more usual plastic four spoke Whizzwheels. The red spot wheel cars get a small premium over the others.
