Ford 5000 Tractor |
|
A nice development from the old Fordson Super Major with some really nice design features. It was a bit exotic too, if a tractor can be exotic. As a farmer's son at the time I knew a bloke in the village who had a Ford 2000, but you never saw a Ford 5000, they were monster machines. We got a 3000 in about 1973 and a few years later a 4000 - but 5000's - never saw one. I always preferred the Ford tractors to the Massey Fergusons, they were more comfortable and a lot easier to use. Less technically clever, but very powerful and nice to drive. We had a Fordson Power Major once that had a six cylinder engine from a lorry - hell that could pull. All of these has a driver, the trailer hitch can be linked to the lift arms allowing the trailer to be picked up or it can be a fixed part of the casting. The nice parallel wheels steering from the second Fordson Major has gone, replaced by a solid swinging axle. GS47 Tractor & Conveyor Set The excellent Ford 5000 tractor is made available for the first time here. It was released as a single item in the following year. Its a slight misnomer calling this a Conveyor Set - in my farming youth we would have called this an elevator. They were mostly used for getting hay bales into high and difficult to reach parts of the barn. The set was released in 1966 and remained in the range until 1971. Almost every played with example you will find will have the belts missing. GS1 Tractor & Beast Carrier Trailer This is an upgrade of the Fordson Major set released in 1964, it remained in the range until 1972 67 Ford 5000 Tractor The Ford 5000 tractor was added to the range in 1967 and remained in production through to 1972. All versions seem to be of similar value. Some tractors continue the feature from the second release Fordson Major of having working lift arms at the back with an integrated pick-up trailer hitch. The later tractors have the working lift arms but have a cast hitch which does not raise or lower. |
