Jaguar XJ 12C
Anyone who spends any time at all reading this website very quickly gets to know that I like Jaguars. I have owned three of them in full size (420 (1969), S Type (1995), XJ (X350)), which I drove every day and I felt privileged every time I got in. They really are excellent motor cars and I love them. The late Series 1 XJ is a brilliant car, so stylish, and this is an OK model of the V12 coupe. I do think though that when they went to the 1:36 scale Corgi lost an awful lot of the fine modelling. You'd think it was easier to get it right on a bigger car but they don't seem to. You would never have seen spotlights cast into the plated grille like that once over and all the lights would have been jewelled. But we get nice opening doors and bonnet and clever use of plated and non-plated plastic to give some good engine detailing. 7/10 for this one. There were a good number of versions under Corgi Toys and it returned as a Police car in the post Mettoy years in 1999.
286 Civilian Version
The Jaguar XJ 12C was released in December 1974 in all blue, blue & black, all red, red & black, tangerine & black. It remained in the core range until 1978.
Corgi is carrying on the excellent tradition here of getting more mileage out of a casting by bringing out a Coastguard version of the 286 Jaguar XJ12C. This version was released in December 1975 and deleted two years later in 1977
The Police version of the XJ12C was released in February 1978 and was withdrawn in 1980
