Massey Ferguson MF50B Tractor |
|
This is another not-really-a-Corgi model. Not really an ambitious enough subject to model, not really well enough done, no real engineering. Not a good enough successor to the Massey 165 at all by any means. On top of that it is not even a farm tractor, although Corgi Toys treated it as if it were. This is an industrial tractor, the yellow ones always were. They were de-specced from the farm versions with simpler hydraulics or no hydraulics at all. They were mostly for pulling trailers, not for using more complex implements although they often had a loader and/or backhoe. They also tended to have road tyres rather than mud tyres like this one. 50 Solo Tractor Corgi Toys No.50, Massey Ferguson MF50B tractor, was in the range from 1973 to 1977 and is always yellow with a black engine and red wheels, there are no listed variations. 54 Tractor Shovel There have been Masseys with fore-end loaders in the Corgi range since the late 50s. Beginning with the 65, followed by the 165 and then finally here with the industrial tractor the 50B. I don't know whether mine has something missing but the bucket does not stay in place when the loader is raised without one holding back a lever. Also the 'hydraulic rams' (hydra sleeves) have lost their friction and the loader will no longer stay up. Compare this to my 1960 Massey Ferguson 65 tractor shovel which still works perfectly. The Massey 50B was released in 1974 and remained in the range until 1977. It is always yellow with a black roof and red loader. There are no listed variations. |
