Porsche Audi 917-10 Can-Am |
|
This is a very exotic racing car developed from the Porsche 917 for the Cam-Am circuit. It's just a shame the Corgi car doesn't look that nice, in fact it is a bit of a brick. The Le Mans 917s were very elegant coupe's but this one has function over form, remodelled for the Can-Am races. The car was originally released in 1973 in white with L&M sponsorship stickers. Who is L&M? 'L&M is a brand of cigarettes produced by Altria Group, Inc. (previously known as Philip Morris Companies, Inc.). The brand is popular in Latin America, central and northern Europe, the Arab World and south Asia.' Tobacco sponsorship began to disappear from Corgi toys in the late seventies and this car was re-liveried into orange with Corgi sponsor stickers and racing number 6. The orange Porsche replaced the white one in 1977 and was deleted the following year. It actually looks a lot better in orange than it did in white, certainly a lot better than the Batman version with the Penguin at the wheel. |
