Superior Ambulance on Cadillac Chassis |
|
Shades of Ghostbusters! Can you have a bling ambulance? If you can this is it. God knows how practical it was for transporting injured and sick people. In the UK at this time we had very tall cream-coloured Commers and Bedfords - the Yanks (we are led to believe) had these stylish pieces of mobile architecture to take your granny to hospital. In 1962 this was a first in a number of ways, the first electrical Corgi, the first time anyone in the UK had seen an ambulance that wasn't a Bedford van you could walk around in and the first time Corgi used the piped light technology which led to the Trans-o-Lite technique. Is this a bit like the hearse in Diamonds are Forever? From 1962 to 1966 the ambulance was cream over dark red, in 1966 the design was revised and it was recoloured to pale blue over white and metallic red over metallic silver. The later releases tend to get the better prices. The model was finally deleted in 1968. |
