The Beatles Yellow Submarine

This begins a long and happy relationship between Corgi & The Beatles, later on in the post Mettoy era we get the Magical Mystery Tour bus, newspaper taxis and Routemaster buses with all the album art, LTI taxis with album art too, and more. The Corgi Toys Yellow Submarine was in service between 1969 and 1972, from 1969 to 1970 the hatches were white,  in 1971 they were recoloured to red, a few examples are known with one red and one white hatch. There were two further releases in 1997 and again in 2000 and 2002 in the post Mettoy era. They are always sought after and all versions get good prices, the original releases especially.

The Yellow Submarine started with a song and an animated movie in 1968. The film was visually very original, if it was also a little silly. However it is credited with moving animation away from being just a medium for children's' entertainment into a more serious and adult art form. Although there is nothing serious about the movie, the music is brilliant though.
