Corgi 266; Chitty Chitty Bang Bang; Four Figures in the Car

Year of Release: 1968

A fabulous Corgi from their purple period. The detail on this model is splendid and superb. The wings on the sides flick out at the touch of the handbrake and the fore and aft wings clip on. However the real joy is in the superb detailing, wonderful. This is one of the dozen or so best known and most loved Corgis. They really pushed the boat out (literally given its shape) with the fine detail and modelling.

Wikipedia: "For the film version, six cars were created, including a fully functional road going car, GEN 11. This car was designed by the film's production designer Ken Adam and cartoonist and sculptor Frederick Roland Emett built by Alan Mann Racing in Hertfordshire in 1967, fitted with a Ford 3000 V6 engine and automatic transmission and allocated a genuine UK registration: GEN 11. This car has been in the private ownership of Pierre Picton of Stratford Upon Avon since the early 1970s"

The model was initially released in November 1968 and remained in the catalogue until 1972. It was re-released in 1992 mounted on a mahogany display stand, and in 1999 with only the driver figure in the car. The early cars are sought after and highly valued. You will also find small versions of the car released in the Husky and Corgi Juniors ranges.

This Corgi Toy was sourced in March 2022 from a private collection
