Corgi Toys 336; Toyota 2000 GT James Bond |
|
The Excellent Toyota 2000 sports was never a roadster. It was a hardtop coupe which was leant by Toyota for the movie You Only Live Twice. The trouble was Sean Connery could not fold himself into it, no problem for Toyota who took the cars away and chopped the tops off overnight, providing a convertible he could comfortably fit into. The Corgi Toys James Bond Toyota 2000 was made from 1967 to 1969, it has rockets that fire from the boot and some of the gadgets from the movie are detailed on the interior. It has a James Bond figure firing from the passenger seat and a Japanese lady driver (Akiko Wakabayashi). To get full value the diorama box should be complete with the missiles still on the sprue and a sealed envelope containing 'secret instructions' and a self-adhesive patch/badge. Values for these are quite high and they are not that easy to find. There are no listed variations. Imagine what I felt when I opened the box for the totally original and genuine example below only to find that the last person to put it away had trapped the antenna under the spacing piece that was meant to protect it. |
