Corgi Toys 316; NSU Sport Prinz

In a way this is a step back - but I suppose Corgi couldn't produce full-on multi-feature models all the time - there had to be pocket-money toys too. Here we have a basic model of a basic car. The little rear-engined German NSU was a relic from the fifties fuel crises with it's two cylinder air-cooled 600cc engine and although still in production in 1963 this car had been around when the Corgi brand was launched back in the Fifties. However it's well modelled and well up to the standards of the brand. The other notable feature is the paint. This dark red metallic finish turns up frequently over the next ten years and it always wears badly. Whenever you see red metallic there is usually lots of chips.

The NSU Sport Prinz was added to the Corgi range in 1963 and remained in production until 1966. It is always metallic red, no variations are listed although the shade of red does vary. I've included a pair of pictures of LW Museum user Chris Davidson's mint-in-box example complete with accessory stickers; this is one of the times Corgi chose to copy the car logo on the box.

This Corgi Toy was sourced in June 2005 from eBay
