Matchbox/Lesney 55e; Mercury Police Commuter; White, Red And Yellow Arrow Labels On The Bonnet No Labels On The Doors

Matchbox 1-75 Range

55 was a number re-used for Police cars a number of times and confusingly there are two US Mercury Police cars from the late sixties/early seventies in the Lesney range. This is the 'Commuter' Station Wagon, also available in civilian guise in this scale and as a King Size model. Where the small scale civilian Merc has a pair of dogs sticking their heads out of the back the Police cruiser has traffic gear like cones visible in the load bed.

Mercury Police Car (55e) was introduced in 1971 replacing the previous 55d Mercury Police sedan, they appear to share a baseplate and other parts of the casting too. The station wagons are all white, the only variations being the sticker labels. Shield labels tending to be a little more sought after than arrow labels.

This Matchbox/Lesney was sourced in March 2013 from a private collection
