Matchbox 1-75 Range

The Ferrari Racing Car which was added to the Matchbox range as 73b in 1962 is a rather dumpy model of the Ferrari 156; it was deleted in 1968. What was in real life a stylish and sleek racing car looks very stunted - it is as if the designer never saw the car but was briefed over the telephone. It is really not a piece of modelling to be proud of.

There is only one rare version and they have racing number 52 instead of the usual 73, models in D type boxes also demand a premium (D type boxes are yellow and blue with a coloured picture of the model, 'MATCHBOX Series' is printed in an arc over the picture).

This MBX was sourced in May 2013 from Lacy Scott & Knight auctioneers
