Matchbox/Lesney 62a; AEC Army General Service Lorry; Green, in B box |
This is a general service 10 ton AEC Army truck. The model was not a heavy seller and is consequently uncommon today. It was first released in 1959 as part of a small range of military vehicles and remained in production only until 1963, being withdrawn before most of the rest of the military range. Valuations according to one source depend upon the box type, according to Ramsay smooth wheel versions are harder to find than knobbly wheels, however I seriously doubt the existence of the smooth wheel version. (Update - thanks to Carl Sturges for sending me pictures of his smooth wheel version - I now believe....) The D type box with a full colour illustration is the rarest coming from the end of the production run. This MBX was sourced in August 2013 from Lacy Scott 7 Knight auctioneers |
