Matchbox/Lesney 55a; D.U.K.W.; Olive Drab, Metal Regular Wheels |
Even the Matchbox fundamentalists can't find any variations of this one to get excited about. It has to be said that it is one of the less successful Lesneys in terms of eye appeal. I've ridden around Boston harbour (harbor?) in one of these and thought it stylish, but neither the Lesney nor the Dinky have much going for them. You'll find it with metal wheels on first releases progressing through grey plastic and the later ones are black. Early axles are crimped and early baseplates matt black, later ones being gloss. None of this has much effect on value, black wheels tending to be marginally harder to find. D type boxes though are seriously rare and very valuable.
