Matchbox 25c; Bedford TK Petrol Tanker; BP; Black Plastic Regular Wheels
In 1964 Lesney continued to move away from the S Type Big Bedford with
the newer Bedford TK taking over. This one confused me as a kid though,
at a time when a lot of new lorries had tilting cabs to give access to
the engine the Bedford TK did not, however Matchbox chose to add the
feature to a lorry that never had it in real life and for years I was convinced that
TK cabs tilted forwards because of this Matchbox.
The Bedford TK tanker was made from 1964 to 1968, most of them are
yellow cab, green chassis and white tank with BP decals and black
wheels. The BP version is also seen with grey plastic wheels. For
mainland Europe the tanker was blue and white with Aral decals. The UK
release with
grey wheels is very scarce and very valuable, Aral versions get a
decent price and even the most commonly found BP black wheel version is
well valued. |
