Matchbox 2b; Muir-Hill Site Dumper (46mm); Red & Green, GPW, Rounded Axles
The second of the three site dumpers to carry the number 2 is this
offering. It is a little larger than 2a but it is still tiny. The 2b
Dumper was released in 1957 and was replaced by the next dumper in 1962.
This period saw a number of changes in the way Lesney made its toys and
some of the materials used. The early releases had unpainted metal
wheels and crimped axles. In time grey plastic wheels replaced the metal
ones, initially retaining the crimped axles, but by the end of the
production run the ends of the axles were turned giving a nice, smooth
finish, less likely to hurt a child playing with it. These are not very
rare and values are fairly consistent across the versions. |
