Matchbox 1-75 Range

From the period of time when Matchbox was making cars modelled on no real car this seems to be another one. However it does look very like the Porsche-Audi 917-10 with a large exposed engine added to the cocktail. Matchbox made the car from 1974 to 1978 with a re-release in a Martini gift set in 1979.

The bodywork is always white, the driver white, yellow or blue, the base is silver, unpainted or red. The stickers vary too; Most of them have blue, orange and black stickers with MB Team Matchbox and racing number 5 in black text, some are reported to have have red stickers. The Martini version has Martini stickers - as it would.

In terms of value most of these are fairly modestly priced. The version with red stickers is mentioned only in Ramsay with a high price, however as it is not mentioned in any other source it may not exist. Martini versions are worth a little more than the standard issue.

This MBX was sourced in June 2009 from a private collection

The Boss Mustang, 44d, was released in 1972 and remained in the range until the brand crashed in 1983. For most of its production it was as you see below in yellow with a black bonnet and unpainted or silver painted base. Later releases were green with Cobra decals (US) and orange with The Boss or 5 on decals. No version attracts any premium to speak of.
