Matchbox 5f; Seafire Racing Power Boat; White Deck, Blue Hull, Blue Pilot, Black Exhausts
Sharing its exhausts with the Hot Rod Jeep, the Baja Buggy and the Blue
Shark here we have a racing power boat with wheels. I suppose I'm a bit
of a purist and have always thought die-casts were about cars and
trucks that rolled along the carpet; these boats, planes and even motorbikes always seem a bit
pointless to me, never mind horse-drawn carts. As non-road toys go, this one is sort of OK ish.
The Seafire powerboat was released in 1975 with blue hull and white deck
and this was the version which was in the 1-75 range up to 1979 when it
was replaced by the mail truck. In addition to this core version there
are a number of colour variants which were sold in twin packs. They were
red with a blue hull and black trailer (1979-1982), red with a blue hull
and black trailer (1981), white with a brown hull (1981), black with a
yellow hull and black trailer (1982) and red with a yellow hull and
black trailer (1983)
The version shown is the most common, blue hull, white deck. The other
common variant is a red deck with a white hull. Rarities to watch out
for are any other colour variation, some will have a trailer, but not
this blue/white colour version. The rarest is red deck and blue hull,
yellow pilot, red exhausts with a black trailer, very jolly.
The Seafire boat, No. 5f was made from 1975 to 1983. |
