Matchbox 37d; Soopa Coopa; Blue Metallic, Yellow Seats, Orange Windows, Silver Base
Another curious 1970s example of the strange cars Matchbox were dreaming
up at the time. The Soopa Coopa - Coopa being Coupe I guess - was in the
1-75 range from 1972 through to 1975 with a Code 2 'Jaffa' release the following
year, code 2 being a factory produced, non standard version.
From 1972 to 1975 the colour was metallic blue with yellow seats and a
sliver or unpainted base. The colour was changed in 1975/6 to metallic pinky purple these have a flower label on the roof, yellow seats and
either unpainted or red bases. Cars from this period are also known in
purple. The code 2 release from 1976 is orange and has Jaffa Mobile
labels on the roof.
In terms off scarcity and therefore value, the metallic blue and
metallic pink cars are very common and do not have high values, except
for the metallic pink car with the red base. These are hard to find and
valuable. The other one to look for is the Jaffa Mobile, these are
highly prized, but beware because fakes are known.
This Matchbox was sourced in August 2010 from a private collection, it was sold in June 2012 via eBay for £11.22 |
