Models of Yesteryear YS-16; 1929 Scammell 100 Ton Low Loader; Pickfords, Locomotive Load |
Year of Release: 1989 There was a single release of 33,296 pieces of this truck in 1989, there were no subsequent releases and there are no listed variations. The truck is a very early chain drive Scammell, there were only two of the 100 ton trucks built, (assuming that Matchbox's researchers got it right) one was delivered to Pickfords, the other went to Marston's of Liverpool who used it to move marine engines down to the docks. Scammell were ahead of the game. While Fodens were tearing themselves apart over whether steam or diesel was the right way to go for heavy road transport, Scammell went right ahead with internal combustion engines and bypassed steam altogether. The Scammell products diverged though shortly afterwards to the opposite ends of the weight spectrum in truck construction. Scammell remained kings of the super-heavy prime movers right into the 1970s while at the same time ruling the lightweight local delivery and factory site market with their mechanical horse and later Scarab tractor units. The steam engine load is a GER E4 Class 2-4-0 locomotive. Boxes: The box is a red, maroon and gold foil presentation box with a card slip case and a certificate.
