Matchbox/Lesney 64a; Scammell Breakdown Truck; Military Olive, BPW |
You do still see these out and about on the road, they tend to have been bought as army surplus by travelling fairs and circuses and are used to tow heavy trailers or having a generator on the back. The Matchbox model was one of a small number of military vehicles added to the range in 1959. It remained in production until 1966, having such a long production life it is quite easy to find, however the hook is usually missing from playworn examples. Unusually for Lesney there were few variations over so many years. The only ones I can find listed (beyond some arcane details around casting and the pin holding the hook in place) are that some have metal tow hooks and some have plastic tow hooks; neither version demanding a premium.
