Matchbox 12f; Citroen CX Break
The 1:1 Citroën CX replaced the
wonderful DS in 1974 and was very successful over a long production run.
I once owned its successor - the XM which while being a great car in
many ways was spectacularly unreliable, just breaking down all the time.
These were big, technologically very advanced cars and really
comfortable. I guess if modern electronics had been available to support
the innovative engineering they would have been brilliant. As it was
they were always let down by the complexity of mechanical/electric components required to
make them work.
Matchbox released the Citroën
CX Break, 12f, in 1979 and it continued in the range up to the crash in
1983 and beyond. Ramsay's Guide lists the Police Marine Division model
as being a Lesney product, but the one I had was post Lesney. Ramsey
also lists the Ambulance which was available at the same time, both
versions are on mb-db.co.uk too, this site specialises in post-Lesney
Matchboxes. These van versions were right at the end of the Lesney
production run, for most of its Lesney life it was a conventional estate
car with windows in the sides.
The one to look out for is the
station wagon with side windows in dark blue with a red interior,
however the racing set black version with opaque windows gets the best
price, of the rest look for the white car or the metallic red car with
white seats. |
