Matchbox 21c; Commer Milk Float
A very familiar toy from my
childhood, everybody had one of these - although it might have been that
most of my mates, like me, had a dairy farmer for a father. Lots of
milkmen used the Commer PB / Spacevan with cut out sides, right up to the 70s so the
full size item was a familiar sight too. This one has dozens of slight
variations to the colour of the load, the wheels, the windows and there
are two versions of decals, bottles on the doors or cows on the doors
and variations too to the decal on the roof sign, it is usually pale
green although some claim it is seen in pale blue, while others maintain
the blue ones have been left in the sun.
The Commer Bottle Float (21c)
was released in 1961 it remained in the range until 1968. Of the many
combinations of colours, decals and wheel types look out for a
combination of bottle decals, clear windows and silver wheels or grey
wheels with cow decals. Tan crates are detrimental to value - but they
may have just gone brown in sunlight. |
