Matchbox 15c; Dennis Tippax Refuse Lorry

The 'pax' bit of 'Tippax' refers to the model of Dennis Specialist Vehicles chassis cab this dust cart is built on. The Dennis Pax was produced post war (presumably named to celebrate the peace) as an unglamorous workhorse for the UK delivery trade (in this case collection). By the time Matchbox released this truck in the early sixties it was already an old and familiar design.

All of these have a blue chassis cab and a pale grey tipping container with a 'Cleansing Service' decal on the sides, most of the back bodies have a small round hole in the front, this was added to make it easier to get the castings off the dies in the factory. The variation (other than vent hole or no vent hole) comes from the wheels which are always black plastic but vary in diameter and fineness of tread. The trucks to look for have no vent hole and/or small black knobbly wheels. (10x24).
