Matchbox/Lesney 70c; Dodge Dragster

Matchbox 1-75 Range

This is a dragster based on the 'Dukes of Hazard' Dodge Charger from the late Sixties, I think it is a second generation model from 1968 or 9; it is certainly the second body shape and the lack of a divider in the grille probably makes it a '68. However with a funny car like this the builder almost certainly took liberties with the body shell, so it's hard to be sure. The model has a lift-up body revealing the works beneath.

The Dodge Dragster was in the Matchbox range from 1971 to 1975 with a reprise in 1978 when a US only yellow model was released. Throughout its mainstream production the bodyshell was always pink, but shades of pink are known. There are quite a number of variations to the model though which come from a range of different stickers and baseplate colours. The most commonly found ones have the snake label and a black base. A good rule of thumb is that if it has anything other than a black base with snake labels or any coloured base with other than snake labels you have a harder to find model.

The prizes are though the 'Rat Rod' and blue star labels, these demand a hefty premium.
