Matchbox 13d; Dodge Fargo Wreck Truck
Here we have one of the
legendary Matchboxes. The Dodge Fargo Wrecker, 13d. A transitional model
that was released in 1965 with black plastic wheels and was converted to
Superfast in 1970 before being deleted in 1971.
Why is it legendary? Because if
you can find a regular wheels version with the cab/back-body colours
reversed you have just about the most valuable Lesney product ever. Mint
in box versions can be valued at almost £5,000. That is a green cab with
a yellow back body, BP decals and a grey hook on the crane. Ramsay notes
that if the hook is red then it is probably a fake. However they go on
to say that the 24 known fakes produced in 1970 are now themselves
sought after and valuable, funny old world isn't it?
On to the more mundane hard to
find versions, you should also look out for yellow hooks on the regular
wheels versions which are harder to find than red or grey, and generally
the Superfasts are worth a tiny bit more than the regular wheels
versions. |
