Matchbox 18e; Field Car

The transitional model at No.18 was 18e the Field Car. Nowhere does anything say that this is an International Harvesters Scout, and some details, like the doors, are wrong, but it is undoubtedly based on the Scout. It is found with regular wheels plastic hubs with plastic tyres or Superfast wheels, both narrow and wide.

The regular wheels car was released in 1969 and is always yellow with a tan hood, the wheels were mostly red plastic hubs with black plastic tyres, with a very few having green plastic hubs. It was changed to Superfast wheels in 1970 and the Superfast car can be found in yellow, white, olive, military drab, metallic red, orange or dark yellow. There are many variations of stickers and other details. Some of these variations were only available in sets like the Twin Pack below.

Ones to look out for on the regular wheels version are green hubs which are really rare or black painted rather than unpainted bases which are hard to find. Of the Superfast variants the hardest to find are the white ones with checker labels on the bonnet.
