Matchbox/Lesney 55g; Ford Cortina Mk IV

Matchbox 1-75 Range

Matchbox 55g Ford Cortina MkIV, actually a 1.6L. My first company car was a 1.6L Cortina – MkV though, the one with the big tail lights. A car I liked quite a lot.

The Matchbox Cortina MkIV was released in 1979 and the 79/80 models were metallic green. In 1981 the colour was changed to metallic red. The 1982/83 releases had their doors cast shut and were metallic brown and shades of gloss red. There was a gift set release in 1983 in red with opaque white windows. Some of the 82/83 releases had black side stripes. There are a number of component variations through the life of the car, seats are red, white, yellow or light brown, bases are silver, unpainted or black.

The one to look for is red with opaque white windows.
