Matchbox 8e; Ford Mustang
This is one of those Matchboxes
that started life as a regular wheels car and migrated to Superfast. It
was launched in 1966 in white with regular wheels which were either
black plastic with chrome centres or chrome hubs with black plastic
tyres. These cars had rudimentary steering controlled by a plastic lever
on the left side of the car. The shift to Superfast also meant a change
of colour to orangey red. Some of the last regular wheels cars are found
in this colour which makes them rare and valuable. The switch occurred
in 1970 and some of the early Superfast cars are found in white which
again adds to the value.
Most of the Superfast cars are
red or red/orange and can be found with either narrow or wide Superfast
wheels. The car was deleted in 1971 and Superfast cars are generally
harder to find than regular wheels.
These are sought after and all
versions are well priced. White Superfast or red/orange with regular
wheels being the best. |
