Matchbox/Lesney 57e; Ford Wildlife Truck |
This a fifth series Ford F Series pick-up truck, 1972 model. It has a Perspex box on the back (or should have, usually missing as is the plastic cover) with a model lion in it and because it is a 'Rollamatics' model the lion rotates as you push it along. It is a very frequently found model, I seem to get one in every big mixed batch of old Matchbox cars.
The Matchbox model had a very long production life, being released in 1973 and remaining in production for eight years until 1981. Between 1973 and 1980 the bodywork was yellow and the Perspex lion box on the back was either clear or amber. In 1981 it was changed to white with animal print black tampos on the sides. This later version having a clear plastic lion box and red, amber or purple windows on the pickup. None of the versions attracts any particular premium.
