Matchbox/Lesney 71c; Ford Wreck Truck

The Ford N Series was a heavy duty truck produced in the US from 1962 to 1969. Matchbox used it in both the 1-75 range and the King-Size range. Here it is as a wreck truck at 71c in the range introduced with regular wheels in 1968 with a red cab and white back body. Early releases had amber windows and these are the most sought after variants (the wreck below sold for £18 in 2013) and of these the one to look out for is without the chequer plate detailing cast into the loadbed, they are really worth finding. The most common version has green windows. There is also a military version.

In 1970 it was converted to Superfast, keeping the same colour scheme, and deleted in 1972. There were two subsequent re-releases, a military version in a twin-pack with the Alvis Stalwart in 1979 and a Tesco multi pack in 1981 coloured blue, this latter version not too easy to find.
