Matchbox/Lesney 38c; Honda Motorcycle & Trailer

This trailer turns up again and again in mixed lots of play worn Matchboxes, but very, vary rarely with motorbike aboard. The bike is a real Sixties track racer, stripped down with clip on handlebars and rear-set foot pegs. You just know the rider wore a pudding basin helmet. The model spanned the introduction of Superfast wheels and special editions were being released as late as 1982. Regular wheels trailers can be orange or yellow but the bike on regular wheels trailers is always metallic greeney blue. The shades of the bike vary slightly on regular wheels trailers but with Superfast wheels on the trailer we get a bit more variety. While it remained in the core 1-75 range the Superfast trailer was always yellow but the bikes went from the same metallic green/blue as on regular wheels trailers through metallic pink and purple. There were two late releases with a green metallic bike on a yellow or orange trailer. The Honda decals were not always present and varied in size, normal for Matchbox then.

The Honda Motorcycle and Trailer (38c) first appeared in 1967., the trailer converted to Superfast wheels in 1970 and it stayed in the core range until 1973 with a couple of twin-pack specials in 1977 and 1982. Most versions are around the same value, but regular wheels versions with an orange trailer and Honda decals will demand a reasonable premium on the price.
