Matchbox 31c; Lincoln Continental
When you say 'Lincoln
Continental' this is the car you think of, the classic 1960s version, the one
Jack Kennedy was shot in, although that was a convertible. Good model of it too
with an opening boot. You will see this with both regular wheels and Superfast
and in a range of metallic and non-metallic blues and greens. It is also one of
those which its value is affected by the type of box in which it is found.
The Lincoln Continental (31c) was released in 1964 as a regular wheels model
with black plastic wheels and originally coloured dark metallic blue. The
regular wheels version is also seen in light metallic blue and in sea green.
Look out for the sea green one in a box with two lines of text on the end flaps.
The prize though among the regular wheels cars is the one painted in the
metallic lime green of the new Superfast release. I've seen these quoted at
anywhere between £1,000 and £6,000. Conversion to Superfast was in 1970 and
these are generally seen in metallic lime green with narrow and later wide
Superfast wheels. The wheel arches were enlarged to accommodate the wide
Superfast wheels, spoiling the look of the car. Again the one to look for is the cross-over with regular
wheels, having Superfast wheels on a sea green body, they are also worth a lot
of money.
