Matchbox/Lesney 60c; Lotus Super Seven

Matchbox 1-75 Range

This looks a bit like the person who modelled it had never seen a Lotus Super Seven but had had one described to him over the phone. It really is not that good as a model. It is however a model of the Series 4 car and the last one made by Lotus. Caterham Cars who have been making the car since buying the design from Lotus in 1973 reverted to the Series 3 design which is still in production today. The Lotus 7 first went into production in 1957.

It did though have a good long run in the Matchbox range being released in 1971 and remaining there until 1977 when it was deleted. For most of the run it was in shades of orange or orangey-yellow with a sticker on the bonnet showing a winged demon arising from the flames. During 1975/76 the stickers were changed to a Streakers tampo design with a blue stripe and red checks and number 60. These are very commonly found items and none attracts any sort of premium.
