Matchbox/Lesney 56e; Mercedes-Benz 450SEL

This is not that well modelled. It works OK when seen with the naked eye, but when photographed and blown up it is very crudely done.

Matchbox introduced the Merc 450SEL in 1979 with metallic blue paintwork and either beige or red seats. In 1981 the colour was changed to light brown and a taxi sign added. There is also a white German Polizei version and two Bulgarian releases one a blue Police car, the other a silver ambulance - these may be post Lesney versions.

In terms of rarity and value they are not very hard to find or highly priced. The one to look for is the blue car with red seats, the taxi gets a small premium too.
