Matchbox/Lesney 42e; Mercedes-Benz Container Truck |
This very small scale model of a big Mercedes truck was made from 1977 to 1983. During this run there were several changes of colour and livery a number of which were exclusive to the German market.
The first 1977 release was all yellow with Deutsche Bundespost labels and this was a German release. From 1977 to 1980 the UK release was red with a cream container, labels on the container were OCL, Sealand or NYK. In 1981 there was another German issue in red with Mobeltransportbetriebe labels or dark blue with Karlstadt labels. In 1982/3 there were two UK release colours, red with a white container and Matchbox labels and Metallic green with a yellow container which had Mayflower labels. These all came with variations of colour of base and window glass. These are the versions listed in some of the major sources, however there are many more. You may also notice that on some of the containers the rear doors open - many do not.
Most versions are of low value, however any of the German issues will generally get a premium.
