Matchbox/Lesney 73c; Mercury Commuter |
This model spanned the transition period from regular wheels to Superfast and was a success in both. The regular wheels version is always green metallic and has silver hubs with black plastic tyres. The Superfast version can be green or red. In green it can have wide or narrow wheels while in red it gains a cast-in roof rack and either bulls head or cats head stickers on the bonnet.
The Mercury, 73c, was released in 1968 and converted to Superfast in 1970. It was deleted in 1973. It is a very commonly found model and there is no premium version in regular wheels format. In Superfast look for green ones with wide wheels, green with a fuel filler cap and Superfast wheels will bring a small premium. The prize though is red with a cats head label.
