Matchbox/Lesney 60a; Morris J2 Pickup

Matchbox 1-75 Range
This is a transitional model that was first a regular wheels Lesney, converted to Superfast and lives on in the post Lesney era

The decals should say 'Builders Supply Company' on this nicely modelled little truck. This is the ancestor of the LDV Sherpa van. It morphed into the J4 which was around for years, then the J4 grew a bonnet and became the Leyland Sherpa as seen in The Spy Who Loved Me. Leyland and DAF both disappeared and we were left with a merged remnant, LDV, who continued to make the Sherpa under other names until their demise.

The Morris J2 Pickup was the first Lesney model to have the number 60 slot, 60a was released in 1958. It is always blue and the variations come in the decals, the wheels and the casting, but it is always light blue. The words 'supply company' were originally black and were changed to white early on in the production run, the rear window in the cab was cast over late in the production run. Wheels can be grey, silver or black.

The one to look for has grey wheels and no rear window on the cab. Failing that look for 'supply company' in black and third best has silver wheels.
