Matchbox/Lesney 36c; Opel Diplomat

Matchbox 1-75 Range
This is a transitional model that was first a regular wheels Lesney, converted to Superfast and lives on in the post Lesney era

The Opel Diplomat with its opening bonnet was released in 1966 with black plastic regular wheels, there are a number of different boxes for the regular wheels versions showing with either light or dark green cars when the car in the box is always gold. These don't though have a significant effect on the value. There is a turquoise regular wheels version quoted by some authorities at very high value which is probably a pre-pro prototype.

In 1970 it was converted to Superfast and remained gold in colour. Light gold ones are hard to find and attract a premium. Some Superfast models have silver painted trim, some do not but this does not seem to affect the value.
