Matchbox 10e; Ford Mustang Piston Popper

One of the Rollamatic cars 10e the Piston Popper was introduced in 1973 and stayed in production until 1981. The Rollamatics had features that worked when the cars were pushed along. In this case the see through engine has red pistons that pop up and down as the car goes along, hence the name. In the baseplate shot you can see the cut-outs next to the front wheels where the pegs attached to the wheels pass through. These pegs activate the feature.

The car is first generation Ford Mustang with the second facelift from 1971-1973, specifically I would say it is a Mach 1 as featured in the Bond film Diamonds are forever.

The model was released in metallic blue, briefly in white (I think only in Germany) and finally in yellow with flame decals. The white one is the prize, most common is blue or yellow but if you can find a blue one with 'Superfast' instead of 'Rollamatics' on the base that is a bit of a rarity too.
