Matchbox/Lesney 69e; Security Truck |
The Armoured Truck (US spelling 'Armored' is cast on the baseplate) or Security Truck as it is sometimes known, was released into the range in 1978 and deleted in 1983, although it may have remained in production after the brand changed hands. I have not been able to identify the make and model of truck and I guess it is either from the imagination of one of Lesney's design team or the full size vehicle on which it was modelled had been rebodied and was no longer identifiable as a result.
In the core Lesney range the model was always red, although shades vary, and
had either a white or cream roof. The tampos always say 'Wells Fargo' but
the number on the front wing is sometimes 732-2031 and sometimes QZ 2031.
There is a promotional model from the Lesney era, made for the Dresdner Bank
in Germany and this is metallic green. Values for the red version are fairly
similar across the types, but the QZ 2031 version is slightly harder to
find. The Dresdner Bank version is generally about twice the value of any of
the red ones.
