Matchbox 42b; Studebaker Lark Wagonaire
I think this model is quite
deceiving, I always thought the Lark Wagonaire was a big car and the
proportions of the Husky Toys version lead you to think so, but it was
actually a compact. While it was still a foot or so longer than its
contemporary Morris Oxford estate, it is not the big American barge one
would expect. Lark-based variants represented the bulk of the range of
models produced by Studebaker after 1958 and sold in far greater volumes
than the Hawk family of sports cars and the later Avanti. The company,
which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1952, ceased auto production
in 1966.
The Studebaker Lark Wagonaire,
42b, was introduced by Lesney in 1965. It remained in the range until
1969. It is always a shade of blue, darker metallic blue or turquoise
and the sliding roof is either matching dark blue or a light grey/blue.
It should have a white plastic hunter figure with it and his dog. Some
sources say that there are no scarce versions, Ramsay says that the all
dark blue version with matching sliding roof are worth looking for (the
one below sold for £25) and the light blue version with a light blue
roof and black wheels and a tow guide is harder to find. |
