Matchbox/Lesney 47a; Trojan 1 Ton Van |
Although they were made from 1948 right up to 1964 I've no recollection of ever seeing a Trojan van on the road. They must have been fairly big to take a 1 ton payload though. I wonder if this is the same Trojan company that made the Heinkel Bubble Cars here in the UK? Today it's the Matchbox & Dinky Toy models of the old Trojan vans that are likely to be of more interest to collectors, and possibly worth more than the full size vans.
The Matchbox Trojan van was made from 1958 to 1963, it was always dark red with Brooke Bond tea decals. Wheels are either metal or grey plastic. All versions are reasonably highly priced however the real prize depends upon the box. Look for the grey plastic wheels version with applied silver trim in a D style box. The D box has a full colour picture of the model on the big side with 'MATCHBOX Series' in an arc over the picture. These are very rare and very valuable.
