Matchbox 34d; Formula 1 Racing Car
While being a made-up vehicle
from that era when Matchbox seemed not to produce any models of real
cars, it does look a bit like an early Camaro from the front, however it
is usually referred to as a Mustang but to Matchbox it was just 'Vantastic'.
It is always orange with a white base and green windows, however there
are variations to the stickers used which affect the value, On the
bonnet you will see racing number 34, 3 or 1; or a sun emblem or a label
saying 'Jaffa Mobile'. The side stripes are either straight or wavy in a
fish design. Some of them have the engine protruding from the bonnet -
this variation not being mentioned in Ramsay.
Vantastic (34e) was released in
1975 and continued up to 1981. They must have sold in millions and do
not generally have much value. There are two which demand a fair premium
and those are the ones with an unpainted base or with Jaffa labels, but
these latter have been known to be faked, so be careful. Sun labels will
fetch a small premium. |
