Matchbox 38b; Vauxhall Victor Estate
Who got there first? Lesney or
Dinky? They both had yellow Vauxhall Victor FB estates out at the same
time, both with opening rear tailgates. The Matchbox version works well
as a model, as does the Dinky for that matter. This is a car that was
once a very common sight on British roads, but such were the problems
with rust in those days, especially on Vauxhalls, they all very quickly
disappeared.
Matchbox released the Victor
estate (38b) in 1963, it was deleted in 1967. To answer my question in
the earlier paragraph, the text on the box for the Dinky refers to the
Victor estate as a prototype - so they may have just beaten Lesney to
the market.
All of them are yellow and are
found with grey, silver or black plastic wheels, grey wheels can be
smooth or knobbly. Interiors can be red or green. Grey wheels with red
interior seems to be the one to look for, the most common variant is the
green interior with black wheels. |
