Matchbox/Lesney 61d; Ford A Series Wrecker (Wreck Truck)

There are 17 variations on this wrecker truck listed in Ramsay and more than 30 on Christian Falkensteiner's website. There was not much consistency in the production of this item. The truck it is based upon is the Ford A Series. The A Series was a beefed up Transit in essence that filled the gap between the Transit and the D Series wagons, made between 1972 and 1984.

The Wreck Truck (61d) was released in 1978 and through to 1981 was painted red with a variation of colours of booms, hooks and glass. In 1981 it was recoloured yellow and remained in the range until 1982. Although there are dozens of colour combinations as described above none is particularly rare.
