|Would you believe that Dinky kept this 1948 model Land Rover in the range until 1969?
It is actually a very good model of the 80" Land Rover from
the days when the lights were behind the grille and it had a 1600cc car
engine. By 1969 the Land Rover had been through about three versions of the Series 1, then in 1958 the Series 2 followed by the Series 2a in 1960 and the 2a was just about to be
superseded by the Series 3 by the time this toy was withdrawn.
Look at the detail of the rear end - the PTO pulley, the horizontal draw-bar - the whole of the back is beautifully modelled. Another detail I like is the aluminium paint under the radiator grille. It looks like poor masking when the bumper was sprayed - but in actual fact the very early Land Rovers upon this was one was modelled had a galvanised chassis - correctly represented by this panel being painted silver.
These are hard to find in good condition and always fetch high prices. The green one has the bumper ends missing but is otherwise whole and original - nice models that I won't part with easily.
