|Another really, really OLD Dinky. This
example has been around since
at least 1954 - I think it is post re-numbering, but actually I can't
tell as this version was made under both model numbers. For all that Corgi toys are splendidly engineered and carefully
made and that this old fellow is a bit crude here and there - it takes a
model like this to drive home just how good the Dinkys were. This is
just a nice thing to be around. Form, function, style and design just
come together to make a comfortable thing. Gibberish I know, but this
is a very nice object to own.
Having a very long production run from 1949 to 1964 this wrecker appears
in 9 versions which I can find. From 1949 to 1954 it was numbered 25x
and was sold from trade boxes of six items or orange card individual
boxes. These early trucks are tan/green, dark grey/violet or dark
grey/blue. All have red painted hubs. In 1954 it was renumbered 430 and
colours are tan/green, cream/blue, dark stone/blue and red/grey. The
later red/grey versions are sometimes found with windows and either red
or blue plastic hubs.
these are really quite highly priced, in fact all of them are sought
after. The early 25x models and the 430 in tan/green are most commonly
found and a priced t the lower end. Boxed examples of any of the others
are sought after and expensive. Top value is red/grey with windows and
blue plastic hubs.
