Morris Commercial |
In April 1952, the Morris Commercial LC4 was released to replace the previous LC-3, It had a redesigned front and an all-steel cab. The heating system was improved and the fan was able to distribute the incoming fresh air. The 3-seater bench seat offered an adjustable section for the driver. For the first time there were lockable doors with recessed interior handles. On export models hydraulic shock absorbers were supplied as standard, in the domestic market they were offered as an option. The wheels had been reduced in size to take account of the post-war trend to smaller diameters. Initially the same range of bodies as its predecessor were available using the same Austin A70 4-cylinder petrol engine with 2199 cc and 61 hp, with a 4-speed manual transmission driving the rear axle In 1952 Morris merged with Austin to form BMC. From 1953 the truck was rebadged as the Austin 301 and the Morris LC4. After the Morris LD Van was released, the LC4 was offered only as a chassis-cab with a payload of 1500 kg. In 1954 a 3400 cc 4-cylinder diesel engine with 49 kW / 68 PS was offered as an option, this becoming the LC5. From the summer of 1954 the entire line was designated as Morris LC5. The Austin 301 was produced until 1957. Production of the Morris LC5 ran until 1960, when it was replaced by the Morris FG. |
